At the moment I make four types of flute:
SERIES 1 This was my first design, it features fairly small tone holes and has a pleasant woody tone. Developed for ease of playing, this flute is popular with small handed players.
SERIES 2 Features a wider bore and larger tone holes typical of a Pratten flute. A more strident tone, particularly on the lower notes.
SERIES R This is a warts and all copy of a flute by Rudall and Rose C1830. MATERIALS African blackwood and boxwood are available as standard, other timbers subject to availability. Tip rings can be made from brass, artificial ivory, boxwood or Sterling silver.
STUDENT FLUTE
These flutes are made from apple wood, cherry, pear or maple subject to availability. They have a two piece construction that includes a tuning slide. The head is fully lined with nickel silver and the conical bored body is treated with a cellulose based wood hardener. After turning the flute is soaked in linseed oil to further seal and protect the wood. I endeavour to keep waiting times to a minimum for this product and these flutes can be used in part exchange for one of my advanced models.
